CURATED ART SHOW BY ME

A 24 hour art affair. Showcasing the work of 15 Erasmus students studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

ERASMUS ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS VIENNA

SEPTEMBER 2018-FEBRUARY 2019

In a public art studio addressing changes in the general perception of art throughout history. Simultaneously, shifting ideas of the “public space” – its definition, task, use, and design. As much as the question of who possesses the power to dispose of the scarce commodity of 'public living spaces'.

“Art in Public Space” is widely seen as an enlightening term that aims to sensitise city dwellers and users in a location towards interventions specifically placed in the urban space.

Study’s included exploring the presentation of public art which must be understood as a specific opportunity for society to connect to urban situations. These, in turn, trigger new processes of thought in a public domain.

My work made while in Vienna depicts a certain social scenario of the city. It aims to address, the common themes of inhabitants living. by which ever means possible.

The academy offered me great opportunity to expand on both German language and critical thinking. Blessed with a multicultural and ageless class, worldwide issues and points of view were always up for interrogation and discussions.

In particular my TV/Film serhen class supported many ideas of political concepts and current affairs. Documentaries were used to highlight anything from: South African university strikes, to worldwide economic struggles, and back to de colonial studies. Regularly, at the heart of our talks.

FESTIVAL ART WORKS 2018

Working alongside a friend, through artistic support in festival sets. I was given a brief (summer of love) of which I did all the larger painting and mural works. Concepts including ‘peace not war’/ elegant 70s beauty standards/ ‘out of this world/ ‘one love’/ earth / forest / mother nature.

In the run up to this local festival I offered help doing set designs, typography for bar signs, stages and navigations.
